Judical Internships

LEX 8502-001: For general information on internship programs at Wayne State Law School, go here.

Winter Term 2001

Schedule: Wednesdays, Jan. 10, Feb. 14, March 21, and April 18 from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Meeting Place: Room 205

My goals for the internship are:

1. To help you engage in self-directed learning. The process of teaching yourself through experience involves questions such as: what am I learning; how can I reproduce what I've learned in other situations; how can I repeat successes; how can I avoid mistakes; what examples of good (or poor) lawyering can I emulate (or avoid); in what situations do I function best; what lawyering skills have I improved on through this experience; what skills do I need to improve on next; what are my strengths (and weaknesses).

2. To assist you in the process of becoming a reflective practitioner. As judicial interns, you will learn and reflect on the role the judiciary in the legal system and society generally. We will focus on specific professional values in our class, such as the duty of confidentiality and loyalty.

3. To enable you to improve your lawyering skills. We will focus in our class sessions on legal writing and professional responsibility. You should develop a detailed list of the skills you want to work on.

4. To assist in developing and improving the internship course and the internship program to benefit future law students.
