Mark J. Bennett, ’90, senior counsel at the law firm of Miller Canfield and leader of the firm’s Climate Change initiative, is lead author of a new publication called, “Current Critical Issues in Environmental Law: Green Buildings and Sustainable Development,” which will be published by LexisNexis in June. It is a comprehensive resource for attorneys and other professionals working in the area of green building and sustainable development.

Robert McWhorter, ’93, was recently elected a partner at Nossaman. He is Co-Chair of the firm's Financial Services Practice Group and is based in Sacramento. He has more than 14 years of experience handling complex contested civil litigation, bankruptcy matters, and healthcare law. He represents troubled companies, individuals, and secured creditors in Chapter 7 and 11 bankruptcy proceedings and litigates matters involving contracts, business torts, lender liability, commercial transactions, and real estate litigation. As a healthcare attorney, he represents hospitals, physicians and other licensed health care professionals in administrative proceedings involving medical staff credentialing, licensing and regulatory disputes. He currently serves as the President of the Administrative Law Section for the Sacramento County Bar Association.

Monica M. Moore, ’00, has joined Detroit-based employment law firm Nemeth Burwell, P.C. She is well known in Detroit-area legal circles and has a strong background in employment law. Immediately prior to joining Nemeth Burwell, Moore had been a partner in the Detroit office of Bodman, LLP. Moore joins Nemeth Burwell as a senior attorney, focusing her practice on employment counseling and litigation. In addition to client representation, Moore presents seminars on topics such as the Family and Medical Leave Act, the American with Disabilities Act, protecting confidential and electronic data, and religion in the workplace.

Anna M. Maiuri, ’92, was reelected by Miller Canfield to serve a two-year term as managing director, effective Jan. 1, 2008. She is part of a five-person management administration that works with the CEO to oversee the firm’s offices in the United States, Canada and Poland. Maiuri has been with the firm for nearly 16 years and is a principal and environmental and regulatory lawyer in the Troy office. She also serves as deputy leader of the firm’s Environmental and Regulatory Group.

Kathleen J. McCarthy, ’87, associate professor and reference librarian at Seton Hall University School of Law, will be volunteering as a short term legal specialist for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative, Europe and Eurasia program in the Republic of Armenia. Professor McCarthy will be assisting the Armenian Court of Cassation Judicial Department in developing topical indexing systems for its written decisions. In the fall of 2004, Professor McCarthy was in Armenia as a Fulbright Senior Specialist as part of an ongoing partnership between Seton Hall University and Armenia especially Yerevan State University following up on the Rule of Law project to strengthen Armenia’s Rule of Law through reforming legal education at Yerevan State University.

Wayne State University Law School alumni Ben Smith, 38, and Anne MacIntyre, 39, were recently selected as two of the area’s top business leaders in Crain’s 2007 40 Under 40 Class. Smith is vice president of development and brokerage for The Farbman Group in Southfield, a real estate services company with annual revenue of roughly $25 million. MacIntyre is president of Community Central Wealth Management in Mount Clemens.
