PROFILE:
Christopher J. Peters has taught at Wayne Law since 1997. He received his B.A. summa cum laude from Amherst College, where he was awarded the Havighurst Prize in history, and his J.D. cum laude from the University of Michigan, where he served on the Michigan Law Review. Following law school, Professor Peters practiced in civil litigation with the Chicago office of Latham & Watkins and served as a Bigelow Teaching Fellow and Lecturer in Law at the University of Chicago Law School.
Professor Peters teaches and writes in the areas of constitutional law, political and constitutional theory, procedure, and legal process. His articles have appeared in the Harvard Law Review, the Yale Law Journal, the Columbia Law Review, and Legal Theory, among other journals. Professor Peters served as interim Associate Dean at Wayne State during 2003-04 and has taught as a visiting professor at the University of Michigan Law School and as a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Toledo College of Law. He was awarded a University Career Development Chair for 2005-06 and selected as a 2006 Wayne State Humanities Center Resident Scholar. Professor Peters has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Donald H. Gordon Award for Teaching Excellence, and three Law School Teacher of the Year awards. Currently he is writing a book about law and democracy as methods of dispute resolution. He lives in Royal Oak with his wife Trish and their cats Oscar and Olive.
