Jessup International Moot Court Competition at Law School

Wayne State University Law School is pleased to serve as the host for the North Central Regional Tournament of the Phillip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition, February 17-19, 2006.

The Jessup competition simulates a case before the International Court of Justice (World Court). Teams from around the world compete. The topic to be argued this year deals with multinational corporations and human rights issues.

A dozen law schools from Michigan and Ohio will compete over three days at Wayne State for the chance to appear at the Jessup international round in Washington, D.C. in late March.

“The Jessup is the world’s premiere moot court competition,” said Professor Greg Fox, of the WSU Law School who coaches the Wayne Jessup team. “Many well-known international lawyers got their start in the field by participating in the Jessup.” He added, “It’s really an honor for Wayne to serve as host of this competition.”

The competition will begin Friday afternoon at 4:30 and continue with rounds on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. Each round lasts about 90 minutes. The semi-finalists will present their arguments on Sunday morning at 9:30; the final round will take place Sunday at 12:30 p.m., with the awards ceremony taking place at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon. The public is invited to watch the rounds of competition at the Law School, 471 W. Palmer St., Detroit, MI 48202.
