William Davidson Endowed Scholarship for Student Athletes Announced

Wayne State University Law School is pleased to announce the creation of a new scholarship from funds donated by William Davidson for students who played NCAA Intercollegiate or professionally sanctioned sports.

The William Davidson Endowed Scholarship for Student Athletes will recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued academic progress, and provide financial assistance for education at the Law School.

Both full and part-time law students will be eligible to apply for the Davidson Scholarship, and students may use the scholarship funds for tuition and other educational purposes.

William Davidson graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1949. He is president and CEO of Guardian Industries, a glass, automotive, and construction materials manufacturer with 19,000 employees in 21 countries on five continents. He also owns Palace Sports and Entertainment, which consists of entertainment venues and the Detroit Pistons Basketball Team, the Detroit Shock of the WNBA, and the Tampa Bay Lightning Hockey Team.

Davidson has been the majority owner of the Detroit Pistons Basketball Team since 1974. The team won the world championship in 1989, 1990, and 2004. The Detroit Shock won the WNBA championship in 2003 and the Lightning took home the Stanley Cup in 2004.

Davidson, who ran track in high school and college, is also well known for his philanthropic support of sports, education, and music.
