Membership Information
Law students both fully operate the Law Review and are responsible for its content. Junior and senior Review members produce the publication under the direction of a senior administrative board. Members receive two credits for each year of membership. In order to receive credit, Review members must work on the Law Review for at least one full year; however, returning for a second year is strongly encouraged.
Requirements for Credit
A full year of work is required in order to receive the two credits for Law Review. Additionally, Law Review membership meets the upper level writing requirement mandated by the Law School. Students meet this requirement in their first year of participation by writing a Note of publishable quality, which will be considered for publication in The Wayne Law Review. Additionally, students are required to complete periodic source-checking assignments satisfactorily. Members should expect to spend ten to fifteen hours per week on source-checking assignments.
Joining the Review
All prospective Law Review members are required to participate in the Law Review’s annual writing competition in order to gain membership to the Review. The top 10% of first-year daytime students and the top 10% of second-year evening students must submit a good faith effort as part of the writing competition if they wish to receive invitations to join the Review. Additionally, all law students with at least one full year remaining before graduation are eligible to participate in the Law Review’s annual writing competition. The writing competition typically occurs during the two weeks immediately following Winter semester finals. There is also typically a writing competition for transfer students during the first week of the Fall semester of the next academic year.
