There is a great deal of competition for the entering class at the Wayne State University Law School. The Law School receives a large number of applications and typically fewer than 30% are offered admission. However, every application receives careful, individualized attention. As a variety of factors are taken into consideration when evaluating applications, you are encouraged to apply. .

 

FIRST YEAR APPLICANTS

Applying to the J.D. Program
First-Year Applicants must do all of the following:

  1. Either complete online application (available October 1, 2007)or download the Law school application complete it, sign it, date it and submit it.
  2. Submit a non-refundable application fee of $50. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Wayne State University. Checks drawn on banks outside of the U.S. should carry the notation "Payable in U.S. Funds". Cash or credit cards are not accepted.
  3. Make certain that the LSDAS Report, which includes the applicant's LSAT score(s) and copies of transcripts from all of the U.S. undergraduate schools the applicant has attended, is submitted to law school. The applicant must direct each U.S. undergraduate school attended to send a transcript to LSDAS. For applicant who earned his or her bachelor or equivalent degree from a college or university outside of the United States, its territories, or Canada, the JD-CAS is required.
  4. Submit a brief personal statement (which can be either attached to the online application or submitted with the paper application) designed to call to the attention of the Admissions Committee any experiences, interests, unusual circumstances, or any other information which the applicant believes would help the Committee evaluate his or her potential for success at the Law School. The Law School does not grant requests for personal interviews. Therefore, it is important for the applicant to include any special circumstances in his or her personal statement.
  5. Arrange to have submitted one (1) letter of recommendation from an individual, such as a college professor or other individual who can comment on the applicant's intellectual abilities and academic performance. An applicant who has been out of school for a number of years may use a letter of recommendation from an employer. Only one letter of recommendation is required, but the Admissions Office will review up to two letters. Letters of recommendation should be sent directly to Law Services.

TRANSFER APPLICANTS

Transfer Students:
A transfer applicant must have completed all of the first-year day or evening courses required by his or her ABA-accredited law school. Applicants must have superior law school academic credentials to be offered admission. Transfer students are admitted to the fall term only. The application deadline for transfer applicants is July 1. A transfer applicant's file will be ready for review when the Admissions Office has received all of the following:

  1. Either complete online application or download the Law school application complete it, sign it, date it and submit it.
  2. Submit a non-refundable application fee of $50. Checks or money orders should be made payable to Wayne State University. Checks drawn on banks outside of the U.S. should carry the notation "Payable in U.S. Funds". Cash or credit cards are not accepted.
  3. An official transcript sent directly from the applicant's law school with all grades for the academic year posted.
  4. A letter of good standing from the applicant's law school.
  5. An LSDAS or JD-CAS Report.
  6. An official transcript sent directly from the applicant's degree-granting undergraduate school.

Although applications from students who have been academically dismissed from other law schools will be accepted, it is not standard practice to offer admission to these applicants.


GUEST STUDENT APPLICANTS

Guest Student Applicants For Fall and/or Winter Term(s):
The transfer applicant requirements and procedures outlined above apply to a law student who wishes to enroll at the Wayne State University Law School for one or two terms as a guest student and who intends to transfer credit back to his or her "home" law school. In the case of a guest student, the letter of good standing should also include a statement granting permission for the applicant to attend the Wayne State University Law School for the semester(s) indicated, an agreement to accept credits earned at the Law School, and any other requirements or limitations.

Guest Student For Summer Term:
A student from another ABA-accredited law school may take one or two summer courses at Wayne State University Law School provided the student is in good standing and receives permission from his or her "home" law school. Application should be made on the Law School Summer Guest Application.
